| Our goal as a pediatric team is to start children out in a relaxed
non-threatening dental environment. We want to provide only positive
experiences so they will enjoy returning for regular dental visits. This
will help them become "Dental Stress Free" as adult patients.
Teaching
children about dental care and oral hygiene will ensure a lifetime of
healthy problem free dentistry. We also emphasize growth and development
throughout their formative years. We strive to enforce preventive care
so your children can avoid cavities. Even if children have decay in baby
teeth, we can still help prevent cavities in permanent teeth.
The
American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your child be
seen by a pediatric dentist by his/her 1st birthday.
All of our
dentists have extensive experience treating developmentally disabled
children. They are familiar with all kinds of syndromes and
disabilities. At your child's initial visit, the doctor will complete
an oral examination. Either the doctors or a hygienist will clean your
child's teeth and apply topical fluoride. If it is determined that
x-rays are necessary, the appropriate x-rays will be taken at this time.
All findings, including x-rays, will be reviewed with you by the doctor
and a treatment plan will be made, so you will completely understand
your child's dental needs. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
recommended treatment philosophy is to provide your child's dental
treatment without their parents in the treatment room. This is to help
the child develop independence and confidence that they can handle the
situation alone they can feel proud of themselves. We make sure we
commend them for their cooperative behavior, which is beneficial to
their self-esteem.
